Unless selecting a vari-focal camera (with an adjustable lens) It is important to select the correct camera lens option for where the camera is to be positioned. A smaller lens will give you a wider angle but will be "zoomed out more", while a bigger lens will narrow the angle down and "zoom in more". See below to give you some idea on angles of Megapixel HD Cameras:

The amount of hard drive space you require is dictated by how many cameras, as well as their resolution and frame rate settings. Finally you can often make your storage space last a lot longer by enabling motion detected recording rather than continuous, especially if there are long periods of no activity.

As a rule of thumb we recommend a minimum of 2 Terabytes per 4 x 2-4MP HD cameras, as this should give you 2 weeks to a month with a few adjustments on motion detected recording. You may only require the full 25 frames per second on certain cameras if things are fast moving.

The Dahua NVR4104HS-EI is part of the WizSense EI Series, designed to deliver intelligent video management with built-in AI capabilities for small to medium surveillance systems. It supports up to 4 IP camera channels with an incoming, recording, and outgoing bandwidth of up to 80 Mbps. The recorder can handle high-resolution streams, including cameras up to 16MP, making it suitable for modern high-definition surveillance environments. A key feature of this model is its integrated AI engine. The NVR supports face detection, face recognition, perimeter protection, and SMD Plus directly at recorder level. When used with compatible Dahua cameras, it also supports advanced AI functions such as human and vehicle classification, people counting, heat mapping, and stereo analysis. The face recognition system allows creation of up to 10 face databases containing up to 20,000 face images, enabling intelligent identification, matching, and search functions across recorded video. SMD Plus technology enhances motion detection accuracy by filtering out irrelevant triggers such as animals, rain, shadows, and lighting changes, significantly reducing false alarms and improving event reliability.
